How Much Do Pavers Cost in Tampa Bay? The Factors That Drive Your Price (2026)
Paver cost in Tampa Bay comes down to five things: the material (concrete pavers vs travertine or other natural stone), thickness, pattern, site prep, and installer labor. Every project is different, so Universal Hardscapes quotes materials by phone or by request, and licensed independent contractors quote installation after they see your site. For a material quote, call (813) 884-0010.

Why there’s no single price per square foot
How much do pavers cost in Tampa?
We’ll be honest with you: there’s no single “price per square foot” that fits every project, and that’s why Universal Hardscapes doesn’t post prices online. Your total depends on which product you pick, how much you need, and what your job site looks like. Two driveways the same size can come in very differently once you factor in the old slab, the base, and the pattern.
Here’s what you can do: learn what moves the number up or down. Once you know that, you can make smart choices, compare quotes side by side, and avoid surprises. Then call us for a current material quote and get installed quotes from contractors.
Why do quotes vary so much?
Quotes vary because every contractor is pricing a different mix of things: material, how much site prep your yard needs, how complex the layout is, crew experience, and what’s included (or left out) of the quote. One quote might include tearing out the old concrete and hauling it away while another doesn’t. That’s why comparing line by line matters more than comparing bottom lines.
The 5 factors that drive paver cost
1. Material type

Does travertine or natural stone cost more than concrete pavers?
Generally, yes. Natural stone like travertine, marble, and shellstone typically sits in a higher price tier than concrete pavers. Natural stone is quarried, so it’s priced differently from pavers that are manufactured.
Concrete pavers give you consistent color and size and come in lots of shapes. Natural stone gives you one-of-a-kind variation and an upscale look. Neither one is “better” across the board. The right pick depends on your project, your style, and your budget. To compare how they hold up, read Concrete Pavers vs. Natural Stone: Durability and Care. You can browse every stone option on our natural stone page.
2. Thickness
Does paver thickness change the cost?
Our 60 mm (2⅜ inch) concrete pavers are the standard for residential driveways, patios, and walkways, and 80 mm pavers are available for commercial projects. The Atlas pattern comes in 60 or 80 mm. For driveways, installers generally say smaller formats such as 4 × 8 or 6 × 9 hold up better under cars than large slabs, so the format you pick matters more than thickness. Thickness does come into play when you compare concrete pavers with natural stone, so ask our team about the stone you’re considering.
3. Pattern and layout

Does the pattern matter?
Yes. Simple layouts like running bond go down faster. Patterns like herringbone, or multi-size and French patterns, usually take more labor and more cuts. Borders, inlays, and curved edges add cutting time too, and cuts create waste, so you may need to order a bit more material.
Universal’s concrete pavers come in several patterns, including Valencia, Roma, Olympia, Atlas, Troy, and the three-piece Milano. If you love a detailed pattern, go for it. Just know it’s one of the easiest places for cost to climb, and you can sometimes save by keeping the field simple and adding a border for style.
4. Site prep
What does site prep add?
Site prep is often the part homeowners don’t see coming. It can include:
- Demolition and haul-away of an old concrete slab, pavers, or turf
- Excavation to the right depth
- Base work: a compacted base, or in some cases setting pavers over an existing concrete slab, which changes the work involved. Installers typically call for about 6 inches of compacted base (crushed concrete or limerock) under driveways and about 4 inches under patios and walkways. Your installer and local permit rules have the final say.
- Drainage fixes so water moves away from your home and pool
- Access: tight side yards or limited space for equipment and delivery trucks can slow the job down
A good base is what keeps pavers flat and stable for years, so this isn’t the place to cut corners. Ask each contractor exactly what base prep they’re planning.
5. Installer labor
Labor depends on the crew’s experience, the size of the project, and scheduling. Universal Hardscapes doesn’t install, so labor comes from your contractor’s quote. Need someone? Find an independent installer on our Find a Contractor page.
Smaller items that add up
Don’t forget the extras: edging, bedding sand, polymeric joint sand, sealer, and coping if it’s a pool job. You can find many of these on our accessories page.
Cost factors by project type
Driveways
Driveways have some of the biggest cost drivers: a smaller paver format that stands up to cars, a deeper base that can carry vehicles, and often tearing out and hauling away an old concrete slab.
Pool decks and coping

For pool decks, material choice and comfort underfoot are big decisions, and coping adds its own line to the budget. The coping profile depends on whether you’re overlaying your existing deck or replacing it. Read our pool coping replacement guide and Travertine vs Concrete Pavers for Tampa Bay Pool Decks. Patios and walkways
Here, pattern and access matter most. A walkway with curves or a patio in a fenced backyard with tight access can take more time than an open, square space.
Outdoor kitchens
Outdoor kitchens bring in base and structure: the pad has to support counters, appliances, and seating walls. Talk through the structural plan with your contractor early.
Estimate your quantities first
Knowing your quantities before you call makes your quote faster and more accurate.
- Measure each area (length × width) and add up the square footage.
- Add extra for cuts and breakage. Installers typically add 10 to 15 percent, more with curves or herringbone.
- Figure your pallets. Our guide How to Calculate Pavers and Pallets for Your Project walks you through it. Coverage per cube varies by pattern and thickness. Check the selected product’s verified packaging details and confirm your order quantity with our team.
- List the extras: edging, sand, sealer, and coping.

What’s included in an installer’s quote?
A clear quote should spell out:
- Scope: the exact areas and square footage
- Material: the product, color, thickness, and pattern, and whether materials are included
- Demolition and haul-away of what’s there now
- Excavation and base: depth and type of base
- Drainage work, if needed
- Edging and joint sand, and whether sealing is included
- Cleanup, timeline, and permits (if your city or county requires them)
- Workmanship warranty offered by the contractor
If one quote leaves something out, ask about it before you compare.

Is travertine more expensive than concrete pavers?
Generally, yes. Natural stone like travertine usually sits in a higher price tier than concrete pavers. Call us to compare current material pricing for your project.
